Looking back over the activities of 2009, I am amazed and quite proud of the staff for all that was accomplished. A great number of negotiations took place on major topics such as Unit 10, leases, the Mirant Plant, power supply and FERC/NERC/NPCC compliance. Staff worked diligently and tirelessly on getting the PPCA (purchased power cost adjustment) charge down to a more manageable level as well as reviewing options for customers to enter into the renewable arena for less initial investment as a result of rebates, grants and assistance from the TMLP. The staff made great strides with the West Water Street remediation project, upgrading the electrical infrastructure, and training staff to be ICS compliant.
The TMLP will provide reliable, competitively-priced services to our community in a sustainable, environmentally-sensitive, and customer-centric manner.
Of great significance was the efforts placed on the Strategic Plan for 2010-2015. For the better part of a year, the senior management staff grinded through the process of identifying the SWOTs (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats) for the three operating business units: Gen-Co, Dis-Co and Comm-Co. Six major operating strategies were identified by the Commissioners as being those on which we should focus: Customer service, employees, financial stability, environmental stewardship, technology and power supply.
To be a trusted resource who provides value and meets customers’ needs and expectations.
To employ, develop and retain motivated, productive and well-rounded individuals who are valued.
To have sustainable and healthy retained earnings to afford reinvestment into the infrastructure and the community.
To be an environmental steward in an economically-responsible fashion. Technology: To explore and incorporate technology in a reasonable, risk-balanced manner.
To maintain a diversified, cost-competitive, environmentally-responsible, reliable and sustainable power supply.
From this point forward, for at least the next five years, our decisions and actions will need to be in line with these goals. We will gauge our success on meeting the objectives set forth and the myriad of action items that have been identified as a result of the business goals specifically identified for each of the operating strategies. In these challenging times, it is necessary to plan for all possible scenarios; I believe TMLP is poised to handle whatever challenges and opportunities present themselves in the coming years.
Respectfully,
