Letter From The Commission

The past year was one of transition at Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant as we prepared for the retirements of several key managers, including General Manager Mike Horrigan. Mike's career at TMLP was an illustrious one, one which led us into the future and paved the path the Plant will now follow under the leadership of General Manager Ken Goulart. We are grateful for Mike's service and wish him well in this new phase of his life.

Throughout 2014, TMLP remained focused on its financial health, business goals and customers' needs and expectations. TMLP's business reorganization, part of the company's succession planning instituted within the past several years, continued implementation through early 2015. This restructuring was designed to streamline operations within the utility, creating even greater efficiency and service. Key among this is the realigning of positions to create a Business Manager to oversee a number of key areas.

TMLP, like other electric utilities in New England, was challenged by the need for additional transmission pipelines to ensure adequate supplies of natural gas for power generation and enough new transmission to import electricity to the area. While a solution is a few years away, this challenge was faced head-on. And unlike other utilities that raised their rates, TMLP reallocated its costs to keep rates competitive while addressing increased power costs to the utility.

While it was a year of transition and challenges, it was also a year of progress for TMLP with the addition of another solar farm and the completion of the major upgrade of Unit 9. These, and other key projects, have ensured that we are poised for a bright future; a future that embraces renewable and efficient resources, cost efficiency and a commitment to continue to provide outstanding service to all ratepayers in our service area.
